Local Granola Celebrates 4 Years

The Local Granola, the natural food and consignment store located on Main Street, celebrated its four year anniversary in March.

The shop, owned by Melissa Jeter, provides healthy and organic foods to the members of our community. Melissa was inspired to open The Local Granola when she saw a need for a health food store in our valley.

“I wanted to offer something that Oroville didn’t already have,” Melissa said.

Along with this, Melissa said that owning a business was something she could always see herself doing, and was inspired by a vision that she had.

Originally, the business was set to focus mostly on natural food, but “the business model has grown and evolved to accommodate for what the community wants and needs,” Melissa said.

“We really try to offer an outlet for vendors and artists,” Melissa said. The new stage space in the back houses live music and open mic nights where musicians from all over the county play.

The vendors have helped transform the shop into a dynamic space that houses handmade items of all mediums; carving, painting, knitting, and more.

With all the successes, of course there were obstacles the shop has had to grow through. But through every challenge, the community and Melissa’s family and friends have been there to support her and pour their love into the business just as she has.

“Without my family, community, and God’s will, I wouldn’t get to do this,” Melissa said.

Melissa's positive attitude also helped her get through tough times.

“Don’t give up when times are hard.” Melissa said. “A positive attitude is 90% of the job. Attitude can get you anywhere.”

The shop may belong to Melissa, but she has grown it into a space that combines every good and talented aspect of our community into a comfortable and safe place to gather. From the self-serve beverage station to the suggestions box in the back of the store, The Local Granola always has the public's needs in mind.

After four years of growth, Melissa is looking forward to finishing up the cafe and “continuing to thrive and be a part of the good in the community.”
