Volunteers feed hungry anglers at the Grange
The annual Molson Ice Fishing Derby welcomed participants from all over Washington, early 8 a.m. January 18th. The temperature was around 30 degrees.
Out on the ice, Ryan Marcolin caught the first fish of the day. Bundled in layers upon layers of coats and hats, everyone's cold-tinged faces showed signs of the freezing temperatures. Tents dotted the wide expanse of Sidley Lake, all colors and sizes, with some choosing to brave the cold with small campfires.
Back in the Molson Grange, the fire was blazing and keeping the dining hall warm, where a pancake breakfast was being served by faithful volunteers. The dining hall was packed with fishers and spectators, with almost every table filled to the brim with hungry diners. The sounds of chatter filled the space, and carried out into the craft fair where local crafters were displaying some of their best creations.
Chamber of Commerce president Rocky Devon said that this year's festival was “the biggest ever,” with a record 200 entries.
The hugely successful event was sponsored by North 40 Outfitters, Country Store, and others. Some lucky winners walked away with hundreds of dollars in cash and prizes.
